Manchester United defender had medical tests in Turin on Friday - report

Patrice Evra looks like being Juventus bound despite claims Louis van Gaal wants to keep him.

Manchester United are certainly facing a change of the old guard at the moment - with the likes of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand confirmed as leaving the club this summer.

Meanwhile a third defender could also be on his way out of the exit door.

Patrice Evra is also out of contract this summer and the French full-back is said to be keen on a new challenge.

One team who have been linked with his signature for the past couple of weeks is Italian champions Juventus. The Bianconeri are said to be keen on bringing Evra, who played in Italy before with Marsala and Monza, back to Italy to give him a chance of Serie A football.

And according to reports in Italy Evra has actually been in Turin last week. Despite reports that Louis van Gaal wants to keep hold of the player it is suggested in La Stampa that Evra was in fact in Turin on Friday - and he even underwent medical tests at the club.

The report stated:

Mr. Patrice Evra, 33 made three days ago, landed Friday in Turin shortly after nine in the morning, with Air France flight AF 1102, before going back to Paris around 18, with aircraft AF 1203.

No deal is believed to have been agreed just yet, but for those United fans hoping that the French international might have a last minute change of heart this will still come as disappointing news.

United are believed to be targeting Southampton full-back Luke Shaw, and Evra has had a rather disappointing season at Old Trafford - so perhaps a change of the guard is the right thing anyway.

But the experience that 33-year-old Evra brings is irreplaceable and that is obviously why Van Gaal wants to keep him at Old Trafford.

However it is looking increasingly like a fruitless endeavour.
