Liverpool morning news: £38m strike duo linked; legend hails star’s transformation

Wilfried Bony and Kolo Toure Ivory Coast

A select round-up of morning news relating to Liverpool….

Liverpool are keen on bringing Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony to Anfield this summer according to the Mirror.

The Ivorian arrived at the Liberty Stadium with a big reputation and ultimately proved to be a huge success at the Swans, scoring 26 goals in his debut season.

And now it is being reported that Brendan Rodgers sees him as the perfect striking addition to a side that already possesses Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.

But he will not come cheap, with a reported £20million price-tag. Although if he can continue in the form of this campaign, that could prove something of a bargain.

But the transfer rumours do not stop there, with the Star on Sunday claiming the Reds want Barcelona star Alexis Sanchez for £18million.

Now that would be a bargain, with the Chilean one of Europe’s most exciting and talented young front-men. The report adds that if Liverpool manage to pull this one off, it will not be until after the World Cup, in which Alexis is involved for his homeland.

And finally, Liverpool legend John Barnes has said he was not surprised when Steven Gerrard began playing a deeper role for the Reds.

Speaking to the club’s official website Barnes said, “He has been the best defensive midfield player in the country. People may have been shocked by that, but I am not.”
