Liverpool spent £7.7m on Iago Aspas and have had very little back from that investment over the last 12 months.
The Spaniard arrived from Celta Vigo where he had managed 46 goals in 136 games and was treated as a hero.
Things looked bright when Aspas netted five times in pre-season, but he couldn't replicate that form in the Premier League and only scored one goal in 15 games and that came against Oldham.
Although Aspas turned in a brilliant display in a friendly against Shamrock Rovers at the end of last week, it seems to have been much too little too late to keep him at Liverpool.
Liverpool fans could be forgiven for forgetting Aspas was even at the club and a sale which recoups at least some of his £7.7m price tag seems like a sensible option.
It has also been suggested that Valencia may make a move for the 26-year-old as they were in the market for him before Liverpool pounced.
However, Valencia are currently financially bereft and could struggle to find the cash to pay Aspas' wage bill.
