Manchester United forward Tom Lawrence has had a season to remember, even if he did not make his senior debut until the penultimate game of the Premier League season.
The 20-year-old started the match against Hull City at Old Trafford, and ultimately had to take something of a backseat when it came to post-match plaudits, after fellow debutant James Wilson bagged a brace.
And yet Lawrence’s future appears very bright indeed, and he has been talking about what could come next in an interview with the Premier League’s official website.
“It’s been an unbelievable season for me,” Lawrence said, “making my debut the other week.
“It’s just been a great season for me and hopefully I can kick on next season as well.
Lawrence spent loan spells at League One Carlisle and Championship side Yeovil prior to turning out for his parent-club against the Tigers. He scored five goals and set up our more in those two spells combined, but he will be hoping to make more headlines in the future.
He certainly has the confidence to succeed at United.
“If I didn’t believe, I wouldn’t be here,” he added. “But hopefully I can kick on next year and get a few more appearances under my belt.”
There has been plenty of talk that Lawrence, Wilson and the rest can emulate the class of 92 at Old Trafford. But for now the young forward just wants to learn from the likes of Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes.
“They have been here before, been through the ranks, won league titles and Champions Leagues,” Lawrence said. “So you just take the advice that they give you on board and it’s the best advice as well.”
If Lawrence enjoys just a small portion of the success those United legends did, he will have a sparkling career indeed.
