United morning news: RvP on fitness; subtle sign that van Gaal is coming?

A select round-up of news relating to Manchester United

MUTV will give Manchester United fans a glimpse of Louis van Gaal’s tactics and touchline style later today when they show Holland’s World Cup warm-up match against Ecuador.

The Daily Mail reports that while the match is being billed as a meeting between Robin van Persie and Antonio Valencia, it could actually be a glimpse of what is to come at United with an announcement on the new manager set to be made in the coming days.

In other news, the Manchester Evening News has published an extensive piece on the possibility of United’s youth getting their chance under the 62-year-old.

Much has already been said about the faith van Gaal puts in younger players, and the latest piece looks at the likes of James Wilson and those defenders tasked with replacing Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand next season and beyond.

And finally, van Persie has told the Guardian that the injury problems of this season are now behind him as he looks ahead to the World Cup.

“Mentally I’m fresh,” he said. “If you play a full season you can be a bit tired at the end of the season.

“But I’m fresh. The knee is fine as well so I’m looking forward to it.”

Van Persie did not have the campaign to remember in his second campaign at United, but he now has the chance to prove just how good he is on the biggest stage of all.
