Arsene Wenger’s side today have the chance to finally break their nine-year trophy drought as they take on Hull City in the FA Cup final.
The big event takes place just three months after Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho reportedly labelled his Arsenal counterpart a ‘specialist in failure’ following a war-of-words in the press.
For Arsenal and their supporters, the situation could not have turned out more ironic. The Gunners head into the FA Cup final as heavy favourites, whereas London rivals Chelsea have finished the season trophy-less after their recent Champions League exit at a the hands of Atletico Madrid.
It marks the second season running that Jose Mourinho has finished a season without securing a major trophy, and after the Spanish press took a jibe by calling him ‘The Special Zero’, Arsenal star Yaya Sanogo also mocked the self-proclaimed Special One on Twitter.
Last tweet bfore history, who would have guess we wld be in this position 1 month ago ? So José how much trophy did you get this year ? #AFC— Yaya Sanogo (@Yayasanogoal22) Mayo 17, 2014
The 21-year-old Arsenal star certainly has reason to be cheerful, as his debut season at the Gunners has ended with a trip to Wembley.
Nevertheless, with just an hour before the FA Cup final, perhaps caution was needed and mocking Mourinho for finishing the season trophy-less may just come back to bite the French under-21 international.
Has Yaya Sanogo tempted fate? We will soon find out.
