Toni Kroos would be better suited to Arsenal than Manchester United says Hargreaves

Former Manchester United player Owen Hargreaves has had his say on the Toni Kroos rumours, and suggested Arsenal would be a better fit.

Former Manchester United and Bayern Munich midfielder Owen Hargreaves believes Toni Kroos would be bettered suited to Arsenal’s playing style than United’s.

The German international has been strongly linked with a summer move to Old Trafford, although the rumours have died down somewhat since David Moyes’ departure. But when asked about the links, Hargreaves seemed unsure if a United move would be a good idea.

In an interview with Goal, the ex-England international said, “I think the bigger question is: ‘Would he suit the Premier League? Is he going to suit a team who play 4-4-2 with two strikers up top?’

“He’d have a lot of responsibility with tracking back and that’s not one of his biggest strengths, so he’d suit maybe an Arsenal or Real Madrid or Barcelona. I think he’s probably in the best place for himself right now.”

Much has been written about Kroos’ contract situation at Bayern and the fact that he will soon enter the final year of his contract. There have even been some suggestions that the player will remain at the Allianz Arena for one more season before leaving on a free transfer – an almighty coup for the club that benefits.

But for Hargraves – who made the exact move Kroos is being tipped to replicate – it seems clear the player is in the best position to utilise his strengths.

Although if, as expected, Louis van Gaal ultimately takes over at United, it will be up to him who the club bids for this summer in a bid to turn their faltering fortunes around.
