Adel Taarabt has been one of the surprise hits of the season, winning over the AC Milan faithful and the Italian media during his loan spell.
Arriving from Fulham in January, where had been on loan from Queens Park Rangers, expectations were relatively low for Taarabt but a series of impressive performances have endeared him to the fans and made the directors determined to keep him.
Milan have already started talks with QPR over keeping Taarabt beyond the summer with the Italian side looking to knock down the £6m asking price to a figure closer to £3m.
However, discussions are moving slowly and it has been suggested that Milan's city rivals Inter are even considering trying to hijack the deal after a recent visit to London.
Current boss Clarence Seedorf's days seem to be numbered as Milan need a series of favourable results to secure a Europa League spot this weekend.
Ex-Roma and Zenit Saint Petersburg tactician Luciano Spalletti is amongst the favourites to take over along with youth team boss and former striking legend Pippo Inzaghi.
Transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that Milan won't go any further with trying to sign Taarabt until it is clear who will be sitting in the hot seat and what that person feels about the Moroccan.
While his natural talent isn't in question, Taarabt has often fallen out with managers and divides opinion, so Milan may not wish to invest heavily in him unless they know they have someone who is willing to work with such a tempestuous player.
