A select round-up of morning news relating to Liverpool…
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes the title-disappointment of this season will not affect Steven Gerrard at the World Cup.
In quotes published by the Guardian, Rodgers said, “I think Steven will go away and reflect on personally what I think has been a brilliant season of football.
He has been very unfairly pointed out in terms of his slip (against Chelsea).
“We will be ready to fight again (next season) and he will play a pivotal part in it. He will take that confidence into the World Cup.”
Gerrard has enjoyed a great campaign despite that much-publicised slip, and with this summer’s tournament likely to be his last attempt at football’s biggest prize, it will be interesting to see how he performs for Roy Hodgson’s side.
Rodgers is likely to strengthen defensively this summer, and Lovren has certainly impressed since his summer move to St Mary’s. But will the Saints completely disband their current squad given the numerous transfer rumours? Only time will tell.
And finally, the Daily Mail claims Everton have joined the race for reported Reds target Saul Niguez.
The paper claims the Toffees wish to bring the 19-year-old Atletico Madrid midfielder in on loan, potentially scuppering a move to Anfield.
