So this is it – Arsenal’s chance to finally end a trophy hoodoo that is close to stretching to a decade. But Hull City will have other ideas and, as Wigan Athletic proved last season, FA Cup shocks are still as commonplace and as romantic as ever.
Arsenal have had a very strange season, sitting atop the Premier League for long enough to believe they were viable candidates only to fall away and ultimately finish fourth.
Hull on the other hand could not have asked for more, and go into this afternoon’s final knowing they could complete a glorious treble of their own – having secured Premier League safety and qualified for the Europa League as a result of this final appearance.
Having scored just once against Arsenal in their last four encounters, Steve Bruce’s side are likely to be polishing their shooting-boots in the build-up to this afternoon’s game.
