Roberto Martinez has reportedly identified his replacement for the departing Romelu Lukaku at Everton
A report suggests that Martinez has targeted Wilfried Bony as his next star signing, as Lukaku returns to his parent club Chelsea this summer.
Bony, who joined Swansea at the start of the season from Dutch outfit Vitesse, has impressed in his debut campaign at the Liberty Stadium, scoring 25 goals in all competitions.
Swansea fans have taken an affection to Bony since his arrival last September, where he has taken up the responsibility of the key goalscorer in the side following an injury plagued campaign for Spanish star Michu.
Bony has aided Swansea’s cause in surviving relegation from the Premier League, and taking them to the round of 32 in the Europa League, where the Jacks lost 3-1 on aggregate to Italian side Napoli.
Bony would fit the bill as Lukaku’s replacement at Goodison Park, as Martinez hunts for his next target man. The pair have similar traits in both their technical and physical presence, with both boasting big frames and height, with the added ability to score goals from a range of different forward positions.
Lukaku, who has been compared with former Chelsea striker Didider Drogba on a number of occasions, looks set to finally step up to a squad role at Chelsea next season having scored 33 goals in the past two campaigns. Along with the supposedly incoming Diego Costa, Lukaku can help answer Jose Mourinho’s notorious striker problem. Current Chelsea forwards Samuel Eto’o, Fernando Torres and Demba Ba scored just 19 league goals between them last season, just four more than Lukaku managed alone for Everton.
Bony has proven himself in South Wales this season, and has supposedly admitted his temptation to join a bigger club if one were to come looking. The Ivorian could be exactly what Martinez needs on Merseyside to help push for a Champions League spot next season.
