Monaco linked to Eto'o

Samuel Eto'o Cameroon

Samuel Eto'o is leaving Chelsea acrimoniously, but it is being reported that Ligue 1 side Monaco are prepared to step in with a contract.

Samuel Eto'o certainly won't be asking Jose Mourinho for a reference anytime soon, but it appears that the Cameroon international could already have a new club lined up.

The volatile relationship between Mourinho and Eto'o finally exploded irrevocably during the dying weeks of the Premier League season.

It is believed that the two men were already on poor terms before a dressing room row during half-time of Chelsea's 0-0 draw with Norwich brought things to a head.

Mourinho confirmed at the end of the season that Eto'o's time was up and he wouldn't be getting a new contract and the striker has blasted the Special One in the press, calling him 'an idiot'.

But Eto'o's impressive track record of finding the net means that there are many sides who would willingly step in and sign him.

Turkish clubs Galatasaray and Beskitas are said to be interested, but the first and possibly decisive offer could come from Monaco.

On Rai Sport TV show Zona 11 last night, it was reported that Monaco had offered Eto'o a two-year contract worth £5.3m per year.

Serie A club Roma were also said to be considering a move for Eto'o, but sporting director Walter Sabatini hasn't given his approval.

Monaco have huge financial resources and are plotting to overthrow Paris Saint-Germain having finished second in Ligue 1 this season.
