Brendan Rodgers speaks out about Luis Suarez’s Liverpool future

The Anfield boss has stated that the Uruguayan is happy on Merseyside and that he “is confident” the South American will not depart this summer.

As with every end of a domestic season, the summer brings with it plenty of transfer speculation and sagas galore.

Despite being assured of Champions League football next term with Liverpool and recently signing a new contract with the Anfield club, Luis Suarez is again being linked with a move away from Merseyside.

The Uruguayan is being touted as a major transfer target for Real Madrid, with the Spaniards set to splash the cash to bring him the Santiago Bernabeu in the off-season.

Regardless of the rumours, Brendan Rodgers has stated that his last conversations with Suarez have been positive and that he is confident the talismanic forward will be with the Reds next term.

“The last conversation I had with Luis we spoke a lot and I know he is very happy here,” Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo.

“He has had a marvellous season. He has picked up all the awards - ones that were very important to him from his peers.

“He’s contributed massively to our success this season and he is happy in the Premier League.

“He has turned a corner in terms of how he’s perceived in England.

“Of course in football you can’t promise anything but I am confident Luis will be a big part of the future here.”

Suarez was named PFA Player of the Year after an excellent season for Liverpool in which he put previous controversies behind him.

The South American previously stated that he wanted to play in the Champions League and now appears to have that chance with Rodgers’ men.
