Aurier, Benzema, Vela would be great investment for the Gunners

Could Arsenal sign three players in positions of need for barely more than £40 million?

With the Premier League season over, the transfer rumour mill is beginning to build, and Arsenal's potential summer business is gathering pace.

Newspaper at home and abroad are linking several high profile names to the Emirates; we have narrowed down three who look most likely at this early stage, each filling varying positions.

And what's more, the combined cost appears barely over the £40 million mark, which should appeal to Arsene Wenger's usual financially responsible nature.

Carlos Vela £3.8 million

Reports in Spain have claimed the Gunners are strongly considering re-signing Carlos Vela. The Mexican has netted 20 goals for Real Sociedad this season, and Arsenal have a buy-back clause in his contract which can be activated this summer. The 25-year-old can play wide right or as a striker, and he would provide the team with real pace and trickery.

Serge Aurier £7 million

The Independent wrote this week that Arsenal have held preliminary talks with Toulouse over a £7 million transfer for the 21-year-old. Aurier will feature for Ivory Coast at the World Cup this summer, where he helped keep Emmanuel Eboue out of the squad. Arsenal are thought to be waiting on Bacary Sagna, in case the Frenchman decides to sign a new deal. Aurier is rated among Ligue 1's best right-backs, and be a sensibly priced addition.

Karim Benzema £30 million

The Telegraph reported midweek that Arsenal have decided to focus on signing Karim Benzema to strengthen their striker options. Benzema has just one year remaining on his contract at Real Madrid, who are thought to be willing to accept a deal around £30 million, providing they can acquire a high profile replacement. Benzema has scored 17 goals in La Liga this season. The paper claims Arsenal will bid later this month after Real have played the Champions League Final.

If Arsenal can sign all three, they will represent very smart transfer business at a relatively low risk price. Considering Arsenal could sign the trio for marginally less than the £42.4 million they paid for Mesut Ozil, it could be great value for money. Benzema has even played alongside Ozil at Real, which should enable them both to flourish, with Aurier a solid replacement and Vela a cheap wildcard with a potentially high return.

This would all leave money available to spend on a defensive midfielder, new back-up goalkeeper to replace Lukasz Fabianski, and potentially a centre-back if Thomas Vermaelen departs.
