Bayern Munich midfielder, reportedly wanted by the Gunners and Barcelona, has given a clear indication regarding the transfer speculation.
"I just think about staying at Bayern [Munich]."
Those are the words of coveted midfielder Javi Martinez, a 25-year-old defensive-minded midfielder who has been linked with an Allianz Arena exit ahead of the opening of the summer transfer window, with Barcelona and Arsenal both alleged to be courting the Spaniard's signature.
Arsenal would benefit from a player of his calibre playing alongside fellow DM Mathieu Flamini when it comes to challenging the Premier League elite, while Barcelona may be looking for a replacement for potentially outbound utility Javier Mascherano. The Argentine has been linked with a return to Liverpool, where he fulfilled a defensive midfield role, but has been deployed as a centre back at Camp Nou - Martinez's secondary position.
Arsene Wenger's reportedly planned transfer activity had excited the club's fanbase as a move for Real Madrid attacker Karim Benzema appears to be gathering momentum and, if the Frenchman and Martinez were both to be unearthed then Arsenal would be sending a very real signal of intent ahead of the next campaign.
Martinez, though, has downplayed the exit talk, insisting he is content at the Bundesliga side. He concluded: "The coach and the club have let me know they are happy with me and if they want to continue here, I will."
