James Wilson reveals his next Manchester United challenge

Manchester United wonderkid keen to seize his chance in pre-season.

James Wilson has ended the season as the unlikely player of the moment at Manchester United.

The 18-year-old's two goal debut against Hull City in the season's penultimate game gave fans a promising glimpse of the future in an otherwise depressing season.

And the teenager said he aims to carry on his progress by playing a role on the club's pre-season tour of the USA.

He told Inside United: "Hopefully, all being well, I’ll have no injuries and will get on that plane to America. It would be absolutely brilliant. I’ve been to the States before, in the Dallas Cup last year, and that was a great place to go."

Last season it was Jesse Lingard who shone on pre-season, scoring four goals, and he too will be angling for chances after promising loan spells with Birmingham City and Brighton and Hove Albion.

With main strikers Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck all likely to be given an extended rest thanks to World Cup involvement, Wilson has a great chance of making an early impression.

New manager Louis van Gaal is expected to be installed by then, and may just like what he sees.

His challenge will be to do what Moyes failed to do, and hand first team chances to anybody who seizes their opportunities on pre-season - having failed to act regarding Lingard last season.
