Van Gaal backed for success at Man United by Bayern coach

Allianz Arena assistant coach Hermann Gerland, who is well respected in Bavaria, has been full of praise for the Dutchman.

Manchester United are yet to reveal who their manager will be for next season, but odds are shortening on Dutchman Louis van Gaal being named as David Moyes’ successor.

The experienced trainer used to be at the helm at Bayern Munich and has received the endorsement of one of the most respected coaches at the Bavarian club.

Hermann Gerland is adjudged as an excellent coach at the current German champions, and worked closely with Van Gaal during his time with the Bundesliga giants.

The 59-year-old has been singing Van Gaal’s praises and stated he will be a hit at Old Trafford.

“Louis van Gaal is a great coach, with whom I worked fantastically at Bayern,” Gerland told Voetbal Primeur.

“He will be an excellent coach for United. A coach who knows what he wants and can execute what is in his head properly.

“I am looking forward with great appreciation to him working once again. I occasionally still have contact with him.”

Van Gaal has confirmed that he is ready to step down as Dutch national team boss after this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

Despite also being linked with French moneybags Monaco, the experienced trainer has spoken of his desire to manage in England.
