Tottenham latest: Allen doubts whether front-runner would want top job, Kane wants to stay

A selection of the latest stories involving Tottenham Hotspur this Tuesday evening.

The big news coming out of Tottenham today is the inevitable sacking of Tim Sherwood after months of speculation over his position at the club.

Sherwood took over from Andre Villas-Boas in December, and sixth place seemingly wasn’t enough for Chairman Daniel Levy.

He said in a club statement: “We agreed an 18-month contract with a break clause at the end of the season and we have now exercised that option

“On behalf of the club, I should like to state our thanks for all his efforts during his years with us. We wish him great success in his managerial career.”

It appears the front-runners to replace Sherwood at White Hart Lane are Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino, and Ajax boss Frank De Boer.

Clive Allen has questioned whether Pochettino would want the job in an interview with TalkSport.

He said: “A manager has to come in who he [chairman Daniel Levy] feels will be able to structure a new squad of players to be realistic contenders next season.

“That’s not going to be easy if he’s a foreign manager, who’s not necessarily going to know the type of players who are going to be the right quality for the Premier League.

“Pochettino has that experience. He’s done a great job at Southampton but I don’t know whether he will be looking to move on from there at this stage.”

Away from the speculation over a new manager, Harry Kane is quoted by TalkSport saying he wants to stay Tottenham for next season.

The striker has shown signs of promise under Tim Sherwood and has found the net on four occasions.

He said: “Even when I was out on loan, I knew I wanted to come back and play for Tottenham. To do that this season has been great.

“I want to push into this team, score more goals and secure my place.”
