Liverpool morning news: £20m bid for Lallana, Toure backs side to challenge again

A selection of the latest stories involving Liverpool Football Club this Tuesday morning

The big story involving Liverpool this morning is that they have put in a bid for Southampton’s Adam Lallana.

The Liverpool Echo reports that the Reds made a £20m bid for the 26-year-old yesterday, with the Saints believed to be holding out for around £25m. However, the report indicates that Southampton are resigned to losing one of their most high profile talents.

Defender Kolo Toure has backed manager Brendan Rodgers to make the right signings for Liverpool to make another serious challenge for the Premier League title next season.

Manchester City beat the reds to the title by two points this season, and the Ivory Coast defender says the club will only get better.

He’s quoted in the Daily Mail, saying: “This club is a winner and when I came here, I saw that. I’ve seen the dedication, the professionalism of everyone connected with the club and all the staff. It is very well run and next season we are going to be better again. Why not win the Premier League next season? If we do we will deserve it.

“The manager will be wanting to build in the summer and it is all about getting the best team around that you can. We don’t lack the motivation at all to win the league and manager will try to get the best. He knows what he is looking for.”

Reds boss Brendan Rodgers was voted the LMA Manager of the Year from all of the managers from the 92 league clubs.

His achievement of guiding Liverpool from seventh to within two points of the top over the course of the season received a lot of praise from those at LMA last night.

Centre-back Sebastian Coates has been named in the Uruguay squad for the World Cup in Brazil this summer.

The defender has missed this season because of a serious knee injury and joins Liverpool team-mate in their provisional 25-man squad.
