Possible Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is not quite ready to take the reins at Old Trafford just yet, with the matter of the World Cup with Holland an immediate priority.
He named his preliminary squad for the tournament yesterday, featuring United's top scorer and international captain Robin van Persie.
Several Premier League players are also involved, but Chelsea's signing from last summer Marco van Ginkel misses out after his injury plagued season.
There is one Blues player who made the cut however, on loan defender Patrick van Aanholt.
Van Aanholt has spent the season on loan at Vitesse, for the second season in succession, and his call up is an impressive reward for his hand in their sixth placed finish.
For those unfamiliar with Van Aanholt, he is a 23-year-old left-back who has made just two appearances in Chelsea colours despite signing for them in 2009. He has taken in loan spells at Coventry, Newcastle, Leicester and Wigan before his spells with Vitesse.
While he may yet miss the cut for final selection, the nod is impressive recognition from Van Gaal, and he is the lucky recipient of a vacant spot created by the knee injury suffered by PSV's Jetro Willems. He beat competition from Stoke City's Erik Pieters for the place.
Van Aanholt has one previous cap from a friendly last November, and this could be just the spur he needs to help salvage his Chelsea career.
He has one year remaining on his contract at Stamford Bridge, and with Ashley Cole likely heading for the exit, this could provide a chance to remind Jose Mourinho he deserves a chance to battle with Ryan Bertrand to compete with club player of the year Cesar Azpilicueta in the position.
