A former Tottenham Hotspur fans favourite, Jermain Defoe, now at FC Toronto, has made the standby list for England's 30-man provisional squad for the FIFA World Cup tournament in Brazil.
While Defoe is one of seven standby players and may not make the eventual finalised selection, to be made on June 2, there is a notable Lilywhite absentee in full back Kyle Walker who, despite only one recognised right back in Glen Johnson, did not make Roy Hodgson's cut.
Speaking on Twitter, Walker said: "[I am] gutted to miss the World Cup because of my injury. I'm still a few weeks away from being fit so I understand why the gaffer has left me out. We're taking a strong group of players to Brazil. All the best boys, I'll be supporting you!"
A Spurs wonderkid who could be on his way to South America in the coming month is midfielder Nabil Bentaleb who, earlier in the season, drew comparisons to Barcelona superstar Xavi due to his appreciation of the pass. Bentaleb was called up by Algeria.
Tottenham's on the pitch performances in the Premier League this season - and their consequent sixth place finish - sees them rewarded with an £18m figure in prize money, yet that amount is dwarfed by the club's total revenue from television. And finally, on transfer news, the club have been linked with a potential replacement for expensive flop Erik Lamela.
The South American, signed from AS Roma in a £30m deal, has previously been linked with a return to Serie A and, in different speculation, Tottosport report on a player who could be drafted in as a Lamela replacement at White Hart Lane.
Mirko Vucinic is one of three players at the Old Lady of Serie A who could be summer clear-out casualties and Tuttosport claim Tottenham, as well as Everton, would be interested in making a deal.
One problem? Vucinic has been plagued by injury this season.
