Roy Hodgson has announced his 23-man squad for the FIFA World Cup in Brazil this summer and has thrown up a few shocks.
It emerged last night that Ashley Cole was not going, he humbly bowed out of international football last night on Twitter after being informed by Roy Hodgson that he was going with youth - and Luke Shaw would be the man to go to Brazil and play second fiddle to Leighton Baines.
He also made a surprise call regarding Michael Carrick - who he has left out of the squad after what has been a relatively poor season from him at Manchester United.
Carrick, who has 31 caps for England at international level, has been left on the standby list with the likes of Jack Wilshere, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson and Ross Barkley in the central midfield position.
Carrick is obviously devastated to have lost out on a place in Brazil and he has taken to Facebook to announce his disappointment at the decision - but also his hope for the team to be successful in their endeavours in South America.
