The Reds' title bid ultimately fell just short as Manchester City clinched the Premier League crown, and manager Rodgers will no doubt look back on defeat to Chelsea and the draw at Crystal Palace as the game which cost his side top spot, but must now look forward to the summer transfer window.
Liverpool's second placed finish means Champions League football is returning to Anfield, and Rodgers must not only add quality to his starting XI but also improve the depth of his squad if they are to compete in Europe and in the Premier League.
That will mean embarking on a summer of spending, and one of the names now linked with a move to Merseyside is Swansea shot stopper Vorm - who Rodgers managed at the Liberty Stadium - so here are three questions surrounding the Reds' pursuit of the Dutchman.
Is Vorm better than Simon Mignolet?
Belgian goalkeeper Mignolet has been fairly solid if unspectacular this season since his summer move from Sunderland, but has been prone to errors and has struggled commanding his area at times. Vorm is even smaller than Mignolet so could suffer from the same pitfalls, which would leave Liverpool back to square one.
Would Vorm settle for being second choice?
As things stand, Mignolet is the clear first choice at Liverpool having started every league game, and whilst competition for places is key at any club, Vorm may not find it easy to displace the Belgian. With a number of other goalkeepers competing for the Dutch national team jersey, Vorm needs to be playing first team football regularly - which may not come for him at Liverpool.
How much of a priority is signing another goalkeeper?
Liverpool have a number of positions and areas that need strengthening; left back, centre back, holding midfield, on the flanks and cover for Daniel Sturridge and Luis Suarez. Having watched Mignolet play every game this season, he's a reliable player and Rodgers should maybe look to other areas before signing another goalkeeper.
Vorm would jump at a move to #LFC and the chance to compete for first-team action – and Mignolet will benefit from the challenge.— Liverpool Family (@lfc_family) May 11, 2014
#LFC we need a good transfer window now we shouldn't be going for players like caulker Williams or vorm we need better players— Poetry In Motion (@CrazyRed12345) May 11, 2014
