FC Schalke 04 forward Julian Draxler, 20, a highly-heralded German footballer with wunderkind status, was heavily-linked with a move away from the Bundesliga and to the Premier League throughout the mid-season market, with Arsenal reportedly close to bidding for the prospect.
Ultimately, no official bid was made to Schalke and so Draxler remained with the Gelsenkirchen club, however, that has not prevented media speculation from continuing despite his underwhelming form compared to season's past.
In the past six weeks, Arsenal have not been the only club linked with Draxler, as he has also been targeted by Manchester United (according to the Daily Star), Paris Saint Germain (so say Bild) and Bayern Munich (The Guardian).
For German football expert Jan Aage Fjortoft, who was one of the first reporters to break the Mesut Ozil to Arsenal transfer story last summer, Arsenal's interest in Draxler has "cooled", perhaps because of his substandard performances of late.
However, if he was to secure a move away from the Veltins-Arena then it would "most likely" be to Bayern, just not this summer…
Re: Draxker Nothing new! - Arsenal interest cooled - Most likely Bayern 2015 - will stay at Schalke now - been weak 2014— Jan Aage Fjortoft (@JanAageFjortoft) May 12, 2014
