For now, the future of Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand remains unclear, and it is likely to remain that way until the new manager takes charge - be that Louis van Gaal or someone else entirely.
Ferdinand's current United deal is up this summer, and as yet he has not signed a new one despite voicing his desire to remain at Old Trafford.
At 35 years of age, and with younger players like Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling waiting in the wings, some would argue that it makes sense for Ferdinand to leave United this summer. But others would say the departure of Nemanja Vidic means the former England international's experience will be more important than ever.
But if Sunday's match against Southampton does prove to be Ferdinand's last in a United shirt, how did he do?
As you can see from the Opta stats below, he made eight effective clearances, three effective headed clearances, won one duel and one interception. And it is the latter two stats, along with the fact that he did not win a single aerial duel, that suggests United may be better off focusing on alternative personnel next season.
|Effective Clearance||Effective Head Clearance||Duel Won||Aerial Won||Interception Won||Mins|
But what did the United fans make of Ferdinand's performance against the Saints?
We took to Twitter after the match to gauge opinion, and you can find a selection of what we found below:

More I seeing United more I thinking of how much I'm gonna miss vidic. Couldn't it be Ferdinand instead...— Gauts (@Gtam11) May 11, 2014
Vidic was (unintentionally) elbowed in the face but Ferdinand's was ball watching and had poor positioning. #MUFC— Marc G (@emarceg) May 11, 2014
