According to the Daily Mail, Southampton playmaker Adam Lallana will become Liverpool’s first summer signing as he is set to complete his £20m move next week.
The Reds have been linked with the 26-year-old for much of 2014, with boss Brendan Rodgers mightily impressed by the Southampton star’s progress on the south coast.
The move will be Lallana’s first transfer as a professional footballer, as he joined the Saints as a 12-year-old and rose through the youth ranks at St. Mary’s before breaking into the first team. Despite interest from elsewhere, he remained loyal to the Saints - in the mould of Matt Le Tissier - and helped the club gain a double promotion to the Premier League from League One.
Since then, he has gone on to become a full England international and is widely tipped to star at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.
His quick feet, intelligence in movement and goal threat will be ideal at Liverpool, and the thought of Lallana linking up with the likes of Raheem Sterling and Philippe Coutinho will certainly please the supporters.
His importance to the Saints is evident, as his 36 Premier League starts is the highest at the club. Throughout the season, he has notched nine goals and added a further six assists - contributing to a goal from midfield on average every 216 minutes.
