Report: Patrice Evra set to leave United and join Vidic at Inter

Manchester United left-back will join Nemanja Vidic at Inter Milan this summer and leave Old Trafford according to reports.

Manchester United defender Patrice Evra will leave Manchester United at the end of the season to join Inter Milan according to a report in the Telegraph.

The Frenchman is set to play his final game for United away at Southampton on Sunday, after eight seasons at Old Trafford.

Evra is reportedly attracting interest from Inter, who have already signed Reds defender Nemanja Vidic for next season. A deal has supposedly been struck with the 32-year-old, who would move to the Italian giants after this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

The left-back position has been one that has attracted much transfer speculation over the last few seasons, with Evra fighting off rumours to sustain the role. Leighton Baines was tipped to join United when Everton boss David Moyes arrived at the club last summer, but saw negotiations rejected by his former club Everton.

With Baines aged 29, United are now reportedly chasing 18-year-old Luke Shaw from Southampton, and are reportedly due to table a £27million offer this summer. Shaw has impressed heavily for the Saints this season, and his strong performances may yet see him make Roy Hodgson’s England squad for the World Cup on Monday.

Evra has made close to 400 appearances in a United shirt since his arrival from Monaco in 2006, and has been a pivotal figure in the club's success. The left-back has won five Premier League titles, a Champions League, World Club Cup and two League Cup’s with United, and has rarely been troubled in his respective position since Gabriel Heinze left for Real Madrid in 2007.

Evra’s solidity in defence and prominence in attack will see him ranked alongside the likes of Dennis Irwin as one of United’s best full-backs, as will his passionate connection with the fans at Old Trafford. An unsung hero in a hugely successful era at the club, Evra will be missed by many a Red should he play his last game for them on Sunday.
