Inside Old Trafford

Manchester United play-maker Juan Mata has taken to Twitter to thank the fans and tell them what to expect next season.

Manchester United's club-record signing Juan Mata was on the score-sheet again this weekend, as his free-kick ensured Ryan Giggs' men came away from Southampton with a share of the spoils.

It has been a campaign to forget for the former champions, but Mata's arrival and subsequent form has been a rare bright spark.  And following the game at St Mary's, the Spaniard took to Twitter to thank the fans for their support and give them a hint of what is to come in the future.

"You've been amazing," he wrote.  "We will come back stronger!"

With rumours persisting that Louis van Gaal will be named as the new permanent United boss as early as tomorrow, there is certainly a suggestion that this year has been a blip rather than a new order of things for United post Sir Alex Ferguson.

Mata has taken to his role as a United player quickly, and has impressed both on and off the pitch.  But saying the team will come back stronger is one thing, and proving it will be quite another...
