That's it the Premier League season is over and after a campaign full of twists and shocks it was something of an anti-climax today.
Manchester City have wrapped up the title with the most comfortable of wins against West Ham United and that means Liverpool have to settle for second place, still an amazing achievement.
Luis Suarez has been the star of the show and picked up the PFA and Football Writers' Player of the Year awards recently - but many would argue Steven Gerrard was the man who truly deserved the accolades.
The veteran has been in superb form this season, being converted into a deep lying midfielder by Brendan Rodgers - perhaps noticing that age was beginning to catch up with the 33-year-old. He has also had his tough times. The slip against Chelsea will always be in the back of his mind.
But today he was, as ever, sensational. It was from two of his magnificent deliveries that Daniel Agger and Daniel Sturridge pulled Liverpool ahead of a resilient Toon Army at Anfield - after Martin Skrtel scored yet another own goal for the club.
But despite his excellence once again the Premier League title has slipped out of reach for perhaps the best Englishman to never lift up the trophy.
After the game he spoke about the defeat, and his plans for next season:
"This experience is going to take us to the title.Whether it is next year or the year after, it will happen pretty soon. I've only got a couple of years left but I still believe I can get there."
Liverpool fans and probably neutrals as well will certainly not begrudge Stevie G a Premier League winners medal by the end of his career, whether that is next season or not remains to be seen. But if they carry on where they left off, this time next year he might have a very big smile on his face.
Here is some Twitter reaction to his display this afternoon...
