It came as no real surprise in the end.
Football fans across the country may have hoped for a little more excitement...a few more twists and turns...but from the moment Samir Nasri put Manchester City 1-0 up against West Ham United, a shock never looked on the cards.
In the end, City won their second Premier League title in far less Hollywood-fashion than they did their first. But their fans will not mind about that.
Manuel Pellegrini has been in charge at the Etihad for less than a year, but he has had a huge impact in that time. And you can rest assured his next aim is to turn City into a dominant force in Europe - something they briefly hinted at this season only to be put to the sword by Barcelona.
But Pellegrini deserves praise, and Gary Lineker was just one man who gave it to him on Sunday afternoon.
The Match of the Day host took to Twitter to write, "Much credit must go to Manuel Pellegrini. Living proof that you can be a gentleman, play attractive football and be a winner!"
It was a wonderful sentiment and one the Chilean fully deserves. He has gone about his business the right way and has got the results, proving that mind-games may generate headlines, but they do not always lead to the richest of rewards.
