According to reports, Manchester United have not included teenage striker James Wilson in their match-day squad for the game against Southampton this afternoon.
However, those fans disappointed not to see the starlet try to add to the two goals he scored on his senior debut should not worry too much. With United’s under-21s set to face Chelsea in the final of the under-21 Premier League, it is likely the 18-year-old is simply being saved for that occasion.
In picking Wilson for the match against Hull City, Ryan Giggs gave the youngster the platform to show any incoming manager what he can do. He also introduced the Old Trafford crowd to a potential new hero.
But despite that brace he is not suddenly going to play every game, nor make the bench regardless of the competition for places.
Wilson’s time will come, but with a vital under-21 game against Chelsea just three days away – again at Old Trafford – it appears Giggs has opted to give Wilson the time to prepare for that match rather than risk him in what equates to a dead-rubber.
So if you want to watch Wilson again this campaign, head down to Old Trafford for Wednesday’s game. But as for next season, expect the front-man to get more chances when the time is right.
