Chelsea appear to have moved a step closer to completing a deal for Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa after the Spanish giants stepped up their chase to secure his replacement.
Recent reports claim Atletico are moving to complete a deal for Sevilla striker Carlos Bacca as a replacement for the Spanish international striker. Set to represent Colombia at this summer’s World Cup, the Sevilla man has scored 21 goals in all competitions this season, 14 of which have come in La Liga.
Chelsea and Atletico have been trying to agree a deal for the transfer of the striker for several months now and this latest news will naturally heighten speculation linking Costa with a move to Stamford Bridge.
The Blues have earmarked Costa as their number one target as Jose Mourinho looks to sign a world-class striker this summer. According to reports, formal negotiations between the two clubs began after the man in question helped his side defeat Chelsea in the two sides’ Champions League semi-final clash.
A bid in the region of £40m is expected to be made, with a swap deal for Romelu Lukaku among the possible deals that have been suggested. The opportunity to extend Thibaut Courtois’ loan deal may also be included.
Diego Costa has scored 27 goals this season and it’s clear to see why he’s valued so highly by football fans across the globe. After a successful domestic season, he’ll be looking to fire his nation to World Cup success in Brazil.
