6. 1936 - Jesse Owens wins the 100m gold at the Berlin Olymipcs, the first of his four Olympic golds

7. 1940 - American actor Martin Sheen is born

8. 1963 - The Beatles made their final appearance at the Cavern Club in Liverpool - they had performed
nearly 300 shows at the club since 1961

9. 1971 - Paul McCartney announces formation of Wings

10. 1975 - 500 drown when two river boats collide & sink in China's West River

11. 2005 – Mahmoud Ahmadinejad becomes President of Iran
