Julian Draxler has scored his first goal since the turn of the year.
Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Julian Draxler in recent months.
The German international, who has a reported release clause of £37 million, was heavily linked with a move to the club in January is also said to be attracting the attention of Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich.
However the Bavarians recently ruled themselves out of a summer bid for the player - and now it seems Arsenal are the favourites to snap him up in the summer - if he decides to leave Gelsenkirchen.
But some say interest in the player has cooled and that interested parties want to see him develop for another season in the Bundesliga - which makes sense considering the following fact.
For an attacking midfielder he is not exactly prolific - especially recently.
A month ago he had a goal controversially disallowed against Eintracht Frankfurt and it was no wonder he was annoyed at the decision.
Because Draxler had not scored a goal in 2014 - his last strike coming against FC Basel in a Champions League tie back in November 2013.
Well today, in his final chance of the season to do so, he scored - his first goal of 2014.
He struck the third goal in Schalke’s 4-1 win that relegated opponents Nurnberg.
It is unlikely this is his final game for Schalke, it looks increasingly likely that he will remain in Gelsenkirchen after the World Cup. Draxler will just be happy to have scored and hopefully of ended what has been a rocky period of form.
