According to Spanish press Elgoldigital, Liverpool have offered €10m for Real Madrid youngster Cristian Benavente.
The Peruvian international joined the Real Madrid youth system aged eight, and came through the ranks as a promising attacking midfielder.
During the 2012-13 season, the 19-year-old was called-up momentarily to the Real Madrid Castilla squad before finishing as top goalscorer for the Juvenil A team – netting 18 goals throughout the season.
This season, he has been a permanent fixture in the Castilla side, though he has yet to break through to the Real Madrid first-team squad.
It has been reported that Benavente was close to leaving the club during the January transfer window, but the club decided to prevent his exit as they still see a future for him in the Spanish capital.
Liverpool, however, are reportedly willing to test Real Madrid’s resolve once more as the Reds have made an offer for his services.
Boss Brendan Rodgers has bought a number of talented youngsters to Merseyside over the last few years, and Cristian Benavente’s style in play may draw comparisons with that of Brazilian playmaker Philippe Coutinho.
The former Inter Milan star has been a major hit in the Premier League, and his 1.71m height is very similar to that of Benavente’s 1.72m stature which bodes well for the Real Madrid star’s intentions should he move to the Premier League.
The Spanish site Elgoldigital go on to say that Real Madrid would be willing to sell the player at the right price given his lack of first-team opportunities, before adding that there is a very good chance of him becoming a Liverpool player during the summer.
