Hakan Calhanoglu has scored the same amount of goals from outside the box as Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez with seven - the best in Europe.
Hamburg SV face a crunch game against Mainz today with a stay of execution from potential relegation for the first time in their history on the line. One player that will be looked at with increasing need in order to survive will be Hakan Calhanoglu. The Turkish international is dubbed the ‘new Ozil’ for his ability on the football field, which has obviously caught the attention of Premier League suitors.
Arsenal were keen but that appears to have cooled - now it seems Chelsea and Liverpool will battle it out for his summer signature, despite the player only recently signing a new deal at the Imtech Arena.
Brendan Rodgers has reportedly been to see him in action while Chelsea are intent on buying every good attacking midfielder in the world - but Calhanoglu really is better than good.
He f course gained international recognition for an incredible free-kick against Borussia Dortmund earlier in the campaign but this is not the first time he has rattled in a shot from long range. In fact, he is the joint best in Europe - and he has illustrious company at the top of the pile:

Calhanoglu is having a great season, and WhoScored were not done there in their praise of Calhanoglu this campaign.
Check out this Tweet:
Most key passes by U21s in Europe’s top 5 leagues this season: Calhanoglu (68), Geis (66), Draxler (56), Sterling (49), Ward-Prowse (39)— WhoScored.com (@WhoScored) May 9, 2014
There is no doubt that he is one of the top young players in Europe right now, and if Hamburg are relegated he will be there for the taking.
And Chelsea or Liverpool would be stupid not to splash out on this supreme talent.
