Paris Saint-Germain defender Thiago Silva has said that his team would become a stronger force if they could sign Chelsea duo David Luiz and Oscar.
The Brazil international made the comments in an interview with French newspaper Le Parisien following PSG’s Ligue 1 triumph.
Both Luiz and Oscar have been important players for Chelsea under manager Jose Mourinho, but the duo have been linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge.
While Luiz, who can play both as a defender and as a midfielder, has been linked with a switch to Spanish champions Barcelona, 22-year-old Oscar is said to have annoyed Mourinho for apparently putting the World Cup before his club commitments.
The Brazilian playmaker’s performances have dropped in the second half of the season, and he himself had earlier suggested he would not rush from his injury to save himself for football’s biggest tournament that will be played in his home country.
And now, PSG have started to show interest in the Brazilian duo, with their compatriot Silva claiming that it is players like them who could help the French giants challenge for the top honours, such as the Champions League.
‘In order to win, a team must have a very strong group’, he said. ‘I think we have it, but we lack one or two players to increase the strength and ensure that we are better equipped than this season. If players like David Luiz and Oscar arrive, then PSG will become a much stronger team’.
PSG are one of the clubs who have fallen foul of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play rules, but it appears that they have not given up on their ambition to make their squad as strong as possible.
