Reported Arsenal target Angel Di Maria is now said to be the subject of a €40million offer from Serie A champions Juventus.
The Argentine winger is regularly linked with a switch away from the Bernabeu, despite featuring regularly under whichever manager happens to be in charge at the time.
Under Carlo Ancelotti, Di Maria has made 50 appearances for Real, scoring 11 goals and providing 23 assists in that time, and yet still the rumours persist.
The latest claim comes from Spanish broadsheet El Confidencial, which says Juventus have a big-money transfer fee on the table along with an offer to the player of €5million-a-year.
The report adds that this offer will not be officially made to Real until the end of the current campaign due to their ongoing involvement in La Liga and the Champions League.
But if Di Maria really is on the move this summer, and it remains a big “if”, Arsenal would be wise to make a move.
I said as much when Napoli were linked with the 26-year-old a fortnight ago for the same fee, and I will say the same again now.
Di Maria is exactly the type of player who would propel the Gunners to another level, a player who can both score and create and who has a ready-made understanding with Mesut Ozil following the German’s time in Spain.
Di Maria will not come cheap; but if Arsene Wenger is serious about turning Arsenal into contenders both domestically and in Europe, he is exactly the kind of player they need.
