The Catalan club are expecting a busy off-season this summer as they look to improve drastically ahead of next season.
Barcelona were dumped out of this season’s Champions League by finalists Atletico Madrid, and one of the stars of the tournament, Koke, is now a said to be a target for the Nou Camp outfit.
The 22-year-old Spanish international has been a long-standing target for Manchester United, with former boss David Moyes sending scouts to the Vicente Calderon Stadium on a number of times to check him out.
The results were presumably always conclusive – he’s intelligent, his movement is excellent and his passing range is every bit as good as Barcelona star Xavi. For Man United, he’s the solution to their renowned midfield problems.
The Red Devils, however, have never made an official offer for the man who currently sits joint-second in La Liga’s assist table with 13, and according the Spanish press Diaro Sport, Barcelona will look to activate his €60m release clause this summer.
Missing out on Koke to Barcelona, though, may just draw Man United and Arsenal closer to Cesc Fabregas.
In a recent report published by Diario Sport, the former Arsenal playmaker is one of 13 Barcelona players up for sale this summer, despite Fabregas enjoying arguably his best season. The 26-year-old is also on 13 La Liga assist for the season, but his eight goals also prove he can chip in when it’s needed.
The Gunners and Manchester United have both been linked with bringing the star back to the Premier League, with the latter linked with a whopping €55m swoop this summer.
Strangely, Fabregas is currently in the midst of a personal battle with the Nou Camp support and the arrival of Koke will certainly do him no favours when trying to win his place in Barcelona’s star-studded side.
Fabregas has always said he’d like a return to the Emirates and adorn the Arsenal shirt once more. But, if Manchester United appoint Louis Van Gaal and the opportunity to move to Old Trafford arises, perhaps he’d prefer to play a starring role as the club attempts to enter a new era.
