‘Manchester United will rise again’. That’s the message that club legend Sir Bobby Charlton wants to give to fans all over the world.
The 2013-14 campaign has been nothing short of a disaster for the Red Devils, who will finish outside the top four of the Premier League and will miss out on the Champions League next season as a result. No domestic cup success means that they will end the campaign without a major trophy.
On the other hand, Manchester City are set to win the league title for the second time in three years. Under Manuel Pellegrini, who was appointed the manager only last summer, the Citizens have played marvellous football and are just a point away from clinching the championship.
City also have a much better squad with quality all over the pitch, while United need to invest heavily in the summer to overhaul their team. And, more importantly, they need to appoint a new manager to replace interim boss Ryan Giggs.
Yet, Sir Bobby is confident that next season United will be back, and back with a bang. In fact, the England legend claims that the Red Devils will finish higher than their city-rivals in the league table.
‘This year has been a tremendously interesting year’, the Manchester Evening News quotes the 76-year-old as saying. ‘We have done our best, we have changed manager, and it has not worked. But next year I guarantee that we will be number one in Manchester’.
United will be like wounded lions next season and will be gunning for Premier League glory. Whether or not they actually finish above City is up for debate, but one thing’s for sure: they will bounce back.
