With Caner Erkin’s contract running out in the summer, the Fenerbahce defender has been linked with a host of European clubs over the last six months.
One of the sides that are believed to be keeping tabs on his situation are Liverpool, who are keen to bolster their rearguard this summer ahead of Champions League football next season.
Despite admitting that interest from the continent was there, Erkin’s agent has stated that his client wants to stay with newly crowned Turkish champions Fenerbahce – quashing rumours he could also sign for Besiktas.
“We have not had a meeting with Fenerbahce, but we plan to talk with the club,” Batur Altinparmak told HT Spor.
“We have not spoken to the board of Besiktas, but they aren’t very excited about the player.
“He is followed by many clubs in Europe but Fenerbahce is our priority.”
Brendan Rodgers has stated that he wants quite a few new faces to add to his squad in the summer, with defence an area that looks like it will be strengthened.
Erkin would be a cost-effective addition given that he will be available for free, but it looks like the Anfield side will need to look elsewhere for targets.
