Gerrard on final day Istanbul spirit, 100 goal haul & almighty Rodgers

Steven Gerrard Celebrates

Liverpool captain's match-day program notes for the upcoming fixture against Newcastle United have been revealed.

While one Sky Sports pundit has claimed that Liverpool's Premier League title challenge is finished after blowing it in the previous matches, the club's captain Steven Gerrard remains positive and optimistic, writing in the official match-day program that the team must stay focused and be unconcerned over whatever happens at the Etihad Stadium - where Manchester City can win the crown with a draw against West Ham United.

"At this club we all know there is no such thing as a lost cause," he said, before noting their glorious modern history in upsetting the odds and that they may well invoke the Istanbul spirit one more time.

"City obviously have the title in their hands," he conceded, "but whatever happens we are back in the Champions League next season… to have done so and scored almost 100 league goals along the way is an achievement we should all be proud of."

He continued by crediting Brendan Rodgers for the Liverpool renaissance: "Nobody can deny the huge strides as a club we've made under Rodgers. He demands that we consistently attack with pace and style and it's been a joy to play in such a way."
