Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw is reportedly uncertain over his future ahead of a very important summer for the teenager.
The Daily Mail has reported that the £30 million rated 18-year-old wants talks with Southampton to avoid what the newspaper calls a summer of uncertainty.
“So far, Shaw has put speculation about his future to the back of his mind to concentrate on playing for Southampton but with the season drawing to a close, he doesn’t want a summer of uncertainty and is now seeking clarification from his current club,” reads the Mail’s report.
Mauricio Pochettino has maintained throughout the season that his players are off limits and rightly so.
The Saints have produced some top quality talent this season, all linked with high profile moves away from the south coast; Shaw, Adam Lallana, Jay Rodriguez and Callum Chambers to name just a few.
Chelsea are reportedly out of the equation, which makes Southampton’s job a little easier when these talks take place.
It seems a straight up choice for Shaw; he can stay with the club that has enabled him to become an England international or he can push for a £30 million move to Manchester United.
United will be going all out to get him this summer.
Potential new manager Louis van Gaal has reportedly already decided to make big personnel changes at Old Trafford and United seemingly see Shaw as the perfect replacement for Patrice Evra.
Southampton are in a difficult position because they’ll also want to get this matter sorted out.
Shaw’s likely involvement in England’s World Cup squad makes things difficult because United may not be drawn into doing a deal until after the tournament.
If the Saints are thinking of cashing in on Shaw then talks in the next couple of weeks could be fruitless and only result in frustration on the part of the player and the club.
Southampton will most likely do everything they can to keep him but the key question is whether they can resist a £30 million offer and whether Shaw can resist a move to United.
