The Blues have confirmed that the Czech Republic international has undergone shoulder surgery after picking up an injury against Atletico in the Champions League.
Cech will now spend the next ten weeks recovering ahead of next season – with every chance that by the time he is back fighting fit that Courtois will be back at the Stamford Bridge club vying for a place.
The 31-year-old signed for the west Londoners in 2004 and played over 300 Premier League games for the club.
