With the World Cup rolling onto the horizon plenty of professional footballers are being asked to as campaigns for various big brands.
One name on that list is Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney.
Rooney, along with the likes of Chelsea players Oscar and Victor Moses is part of the Samsung Football line-up ahead of this summer’s World Cup - and as part of his PR duties he was involved in a live Q&A with fans on their official Facebook page this afternoon.
And it was a Chelsea player whom he bestowed a great honour earlier today.
In his career Rooney has played against some of the best defenders in the world on a regular basis. In his role as a striker in many an international tie and Champions League football he has also come up against plenty of the world’s best central defenders - but when it comes to naming the best he has ever played it is an interesting choice.
He goes homegrown … with his former England captain John Terry getting the nod.
Rooney was asked:
“Who's the best defender you have come up against?”
To which he replied…
“I'd say John Terry, he's tall and he's strong.”
Terry has had a fantastic season at Chelsea this term - to the point where many are calling on ‘JT’ to get an international recall for the upcoming World Cup in Brazil.
Obviously his time has now passed - with England needing to get a grip of the future by bringing in young and fresh talent.
But based on form alone there is no doubt he would be the first name on the team-sheet for Roy Hodgson this summer in Brazil.
And anyone Rooney ranks as the best he has ever faced deserves plenty of recognition.
