According to reports at the weekend, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has promised to bring in six players in the summer, in order to improve the Reds title hopes. And after the staggering capitulation on Monday night against Crystal Palace, it could be argued that is just what is needed.
According to reports in the Daily Mail, the task of finding the six players in the summer may have already started with Real Sociedad duo Inigo Martinez and Antoine Griezmann - both of which have been linked to the likes of Real Madrid and Arsenal.
The report claims: 'Liverpool scouts watched Antoine Griezmann in Real Sociedad's 1-1 draw with Granada on Monday night.
'The French winger has been in fine form this season, and has been monitored by other Premier League sides.
'The game also gave Liverpool staff the chance to check on his Sociedad teammate centre-back Inigo Martinez while Tiago Ilori, on loan from Liverpool, was playing for Granada.'
In light of the speculation, it could be argued that Liverpool could seriously be looking to step up their game this summer with regards to signing more high-profile players.
We take a look at three questions surrounding the Liverpool's reported interest and what it could mean for their transfer policy in the future.
Will Liverpool be able to compete with Madrid and Arsenal on a financial level?
I fear this will be the question most Liverpool supporters will be anxious about in the summer and it is a question, which at the minute, remains to be answered.
The last four transfer windows have yielded a relative low expenditure and whether or not the Reds league position and Champions League qualification will change that is not apparent at this moment in time.
However, as most supporters will agree - if you want to be the best in the modern game, it doesn't come cheap.
Will these Sociedad players improve the current Liverpool team?
As you know, in football there is no guarantees, however, particularly this season, these two players have been outstanding.
The French attacker, Antonine Griezmann, has been at the forefront of everything good about Sociedad this season and has been involved with 19 goals, scoring 15 and creating three.
Whilst, Spanish centre-back Inigo Martinez has caught the eye of La Liga giants Real Madrid and earned a call-up to the Spanish first-team.
These are two players with serious pedigree and would, on the face of it, improve Liverpool's side quite a bit - particularly, in my opinion, Inigo Martinez.
How much would they cost?
According to a number of reports, Antonine Griezmann has a reported release clause of £25m and Inigo Martinez has a release clause of £30m. Which means if unmoved by lower bids, the duo could cost Liverpool in the region of £55million - a similar figure to that spent on Andy Carroll and Stewart Downing.
As said in the first question, whether or not other clubs are in for these players and whether or not Liverpool look to spend that sort of money again remains to be seen.
However, one thing is for sure - these two players will not come cheap.
