Real Madrid join race for Liverpool and Chelsea left-back solution

Ricardo Rodriguez and Messi

Real Madrid are also said to be tracking VfL Wolfsburg left-back Ricardo Rodriguez.

Both Chelsea and Liverpool have been linked with a move for VfL Wolfsburg left-back Ricardo Rodriguez this summer - as both have issues to address in that area of the park.

Liverpool have lacked a quality out and out left-sided defender all season - with Jose Enrique on the treatment table and Aly Cissokho not really up to scratch.

Chelsea on the other hand have used Cesar Azpilicueta out of position for the majority of their campaign and with Ashley Cole seemingly leaving this summer they are also said to be keeping tabs on the player.

The Swiss international has been one of the top performing players in the Bundesliga - and at just 21-years-old is considered as one of the top full-back talents in the world..

But despite all the rumours, rumours which Rodriguez himself has failed to speak about at length; it appears that Wolfsburg are not willing to sell.

Head coach Dieter Hecking has spoken about the future of his full back, suggesting no deal was on the cards for the player:

"We are not prepared to give him. If he wants to hear it again, he may be happy. "

Wolfsburg seem intent on keeping hold of the player - as they believe their club can challenge for the title again in the coming years. They are also in line to make it to the Champions League next season if they win and Leverkusen fail to do the same in the final game of the Bundesliga season this weekend.

That being said a club that teams and players rarely say no to are now believed to be interested - Real Madrid.

Carlo Ancelotti is reportedly tired of Marcelo’s injury proneness and Rodriguez appears to have climbed to the top of his scouting pile according to German paper Bild.

Madrid would have an added advantage in any hunt for the player in that he is of Spanish heritage - knowing the language due to his Spanish father and Chilean mother, offering him comfortability in Spain he would not receive in England.
