James Wilson was given a chance to impress for Manchester United last night by interim boss Ryan Giggs and he didn’t disappoint.
The United forward bagged a brace on his full debut for the club and looked a real talent and someone who could give the next permanent manager at Old Trafford a real problem.
Wilson has been in great form for the club’s under-21 side this season with seven goals in the under-21 Premier League and five goals and an assist in the UEFA Youth League, where United went out at the group stage.
Wilson showcased his talent last night and gave Hull City’s defence some real problems.
He looks like an extremely versatile attacking player who can play down either side of the attack and someone who can play the number nine or false number nine roles up front.
He also seems to be extremely comfortable with either foot, which is important when sides get to grips with how to play against him and try to confine him in certain areas of the pitch.
His performance wasn’t just significant on a personal level, it was also significant from a team perspective.
It was important for United to play well and get a win in their final home game of what has been a terrible season by their own usually high standards.
Wilson’s performance will have fans talking, buzzing and positive ahead of the weekend, creating a positive in a season where there hasn’t been a great deal to get excited about.
While some fans will suggest that Europa League football won’t benefit the side next season, it will create additional funding platforms and will be a competition where United can allow players like Wilson to develop even further.
Here’s what United fans made of his performance last night on Twitter.
