€17.5m Liverpool target tells young fan he is going nowhere this summer

Xherdan Shaqiri is reported to have told fans he will stay at Bayern Munich for next season.

Being up against the likes of Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery, Thomas Muller and Mario Gotze in a fight for first-team football is pretty tough - but this is the life of Bayern Munich star - Xherdan Shaqiri.

When he has featured for Bayern Munich this campaign he has impressed. Shaqiri has played just 782 minutes of Bundesliga football this term but has six goals to his name.

Premier League teams are obviously being linked with the player - who joined Bayern Munich for €11.6 million from FC Basel in 2012 and is said to now be valued at around €17.5 million - two of which were even mentioned by name by his brother Erdin a couple of months ago:

“We are now waiting for the summer to see what we do. But when clubs like Liverpool, Manchester United, Internazionale and other top clubs report to you, then of course we must listen to what they have to offer."

It has since emerged that Sevilla are keen and it is Liverpool who are increasingly being dubbed the favourites to sign the Swiss international.

Currently he is injured - out with a hamstring problem - and he might just miss the rest of the season. That has also put his World Cup place with Switzerland in doubt - which was the main topic of discussion between the 22-year-old and Swiss paper Blick this week.

But on his way to the interview he was mobbed by autograph hunters and adoring fans - one of which cheekily asked him: “Who will you play for next season?”

His answer…

“Still at Bayern Munich!”

The report in Blick states:

The children are allowed to ask their idol questions. Rather harmless, what hair gel he uses ("a special wax"). Or even tough. Although a girl stammered with nervousness, as she stood before the Bayern star. But she asked exactly what everyone wants to know: "Who will you play for next season?" Shaqiri laughs and ends all transfer speculation: "Still at Bayern Munich!"

Liverpool look to have already moved on to Antoine Griezmann according to reports this morning.

But Shaqiri, who also confirmed he will be fit for the World Cup, looks like being off the radar.
