Manchester United's player ratings from 3-1 victory over Hull City listed with strong performances from number of stars from the past and for the future.
David de Gea - 6
Conceded on the hour mark to provide a nervy finish had it not been for the feel-good atmosphere generated by the home fans whenever Giggs was on the ball.
Antonio Valencia - 6
Attempted 69 passes, with a 93% success rate. Completed 66% of his tackling efforts.
Phil Jones - N/a
Was taken to hospital in an ambulance after just 20 minutes after injuring his shoulder.
Chris Smalling - 7.5
Excellent possession retention and passing accuracy, aerially dominant and effective clearer of the football.
Alex Buttner - 6
Got forward on occasion, attempting crosses but the supply was wayward, also caught out in possession.
Michael Carrick- 7.5
Started with the captain's armband. Rarely misplaced a pass and kept things ticking over in the heart of midfield.
Marouane Fellaini - 7.5
Utilised in a more advanced role, a selection that paid dividends for manager Ryan Giggs as the Belgium midfielder created two chances within half an hour (he'd only created three all season before the Hull match) - one of which led to an assist as he played in James Wilson. Booked for elbow usage. Fellaini and the words 95% passing accuracy would have been an unlikely sentence pairing earlier in the year but he performed admirably against Hull.
Shinji Kagawa - 6
Played deeper, amassing high number of passing attempts from the middle third.
Adnan Januzaj - 8
Linked up well with Fellaini. Could have had a penalty after an infringement by Maynor Figueroa but did not get the call. His trickery foiled Hull's rearguard and he was a distinct threat throughout. His familiarity with his fellow United fledglings was on display in half number two, as he provided good balls to Wilson. He completed five of his 10 crossing attempts which is a fantastic return from the wide area.
Tom Lawrence - 8
Like Wilson, was unencumbered by the burden of pressure at a young, inexperienced age. Had a good shot in first 15 minutes but guided the ball just over the bar.
James Wilson - 9
Was fed well at the beginning of the match, giving him confidence at the highest level. Could have scored earlier than he did but in all, had the dream debut as he scored from six yards after being supplied by Fellaini. Finished off a move involving Fellaini and Januzaj to score his second. Two goals from four attempts.
Substitutions: Nemanja Vidic, got a great reception when he came on; Robin van Persie, scored; Ryan Giggs.
